    On Question 1.b what is meant by “an inward extrapolation of the MMSN surface density profile”?

      The MMSN is defined by \Sigma = 1700 (r/1 AU)^{-3/2} g cm^{-2}. Strictly that’s derived from Solar System data, so it doesn’t apply interior to Mercury. However, you can take r corresponding to the location of the planet in the problem and see what density the MMSN would have if extrapolated that far in…
